Art Club 2000 was founded in 1992 as a collaboration between 7 art school students at Cooper Union (Patterson Beckwith, Gillian Haratani, Danny McDonald, Shannon Pultz, Sarah Rossiter, Soibian Spring, and Craig Wadlin) in dialogue with art dealer Colin de Land of American Fine Arts, Co. in NYC.
My interest in Art Club grew out of the period: I was participating in activist groups such as fierce pussy in 1991, working for gallerists Pat Hearn and Andrea Rosen, and later as an assistant to artist Renée Green. Art Club was an experiment in making work without a single author, playing with notions of institutional critique, and subverting the celebrity culture of the art world.
Art Club 2000 was recently included in:
NYC 1993: Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star, at the New Museum, February 13, 2013 - May 26, 2013
